Urban Elk Restaurant & Bar

Billy Stoops and the Dirt Angels.

On the West side of Allenmore Golf Course is the Urban Elk Restaurant & Bar. Well reviewed for food and drinks as well as staff and environment. But one of the things that’s hard to find on the web-site is the information about the Saturday live music. That’s easiest to find on the Facebook page.

Saturdays from 4:00 to 7:00, various artists or bands perform inside, or outside if the weather is good.

Well on October 1st the weather couldn’t have been much better, and neither could the music.

Billy Stoops and the Dirt Angels were set up and playing on the patio when we got there at a few minutes after 4:00, and many of the friends we have made out and about catching the local performers were there too! After a short stroll toward the stage we spotted a table with 4 chairs that was still open. Naturally we were more than pleased to get that, and as a bonus it was right along side some of our favorite folks from the group… Barb, Milo, Kim and Brian. We were in the house with all of them at the spring Bluesfest. After the three of us (Zeek, Lexi, and Denice) decided on what to eat and drink, I (Zeek) headed inside to order. Much to my pleasure, Todd Arrighi from the legendary Lew Schmngy was at the bar ordering too. He mentioned how full the place was, and I told there was an extra seat at our table. As we made our way back outside, Billy’s voice and the accompaniment of the Dirt Angels echoed across the patio with some of our well known favorites. Within a moment, we were up and dancing to Know My Name. We hadn’t even taken the time the set down our sunglasses or take the flyers from our previous stop out of our pockets (it made for a good laugh). While the dancing space wasn’t large, it was certainly sufficient… as long as being a dancing door man isn’t something you’re opposed to.

The first dance of the evening, we discovered we had loose glasses and papers in pockets that scattered while we were dancing... Ooops! With the best spot in front of the doors, we stopped to help prop them open for servers and folks in and out while dancing to Billy Stoops and the Dirt Angels playing Know My Name. All part of dancing while out and about!

So for now, here’s to dancing at any opportunity and the doors it opens!
