There’s Always Time for Wine Tasting

We love going to The Wine Spot in Edgewood and tasting the variety of wines they have available. We’ve had a variety of wine club memberships throughout the years, but recently became a bit disenchanted with the concept. However, our club membership at The Wine Spot is worth every penny and the only one we refuse to give up! On the monthly member pickup nights, we make it over for a tasting and enjoy the great atmosphere. Although when we saw this week’s tasting flight on Facebook, we knew we had to make a special trip!

We already had a fairly busy week planned (when do we not?)… Thursday at Cockrell’s for music, Friday at Farm 12 for a graduation celebration, Saturday at Lake City Pub for music, and Sunday at the theater for the new Jurassic Park movie. But the tasting menu sounded too good to give up! So, after some discussion, we decided we would leave early Friday afternoon and head up to Edgewood for a tasting before going back down the hill to Farm 12 for dinner. It worked out well because, for the most part, we were going against traffic despite trekking through South Hill and Puyallup on a Friday afternoon.

When we finally made it to The Wine Spot, we ordered four carafes from the tasting menu and sat down on the back patio to enjoy the warmth of the sunny summer day.

  • Cotes du Rhone (France): A dry white, this was refreshing but not sweet. A good, chilled white for a warm summer day!

  • Albarino Reserva (Uruguay): This was also a dry white, but it was a little bitter with a bit of a bite.

  • Malbec (Red Mountain): Red Mountain wines are normally one of our favorites, but this one was a bit underwhelming. It had an almost vinegary taste but was smooth with a short finish. (However, it was our daughter’s favorite of the set!)

  • Cabernet Franc Reserva (Uruguay): An earthy smell with just a slight detection of minerality and cooking spices. You can just taste the minerality with dark fruits and lingering tannins that provide a long finish throughout the mouth. This was our favorite of the tasting and we walked away with a bottle!

As we wrapped up our tasting and added a few bottles to our collection, we got chatting with Dawne about a raffle they are hosting! To support Nourish Pierce County Food Banks, they are raffling a 3-liter bottle of Phantom red blend. Tickets are only $1, so make sure to stop by and get a few to support this great cause. Food banks are near and dear to our heart, and they’ve taken a hit during the last few years.

The drawing will be held on July 30th, so get there early and buy up some tickets to support our community (and have a chance to win this amazing show piece of delicious wine)!

By the time you’ll be reading this, the tasting menu may have changed… So, make sure to check out The Wine Spot’s Facebook page for this week’s tasting menu!

So, for now, cheers to enjoying fantastic wine, whether it be in the long quiet moments, or the quick stops during the week!
