Sunday Sipping

Sun was in the forecast for the weekend, but in Western Washington you can never really trust that. So, when we woke up Sunday morning to 70 degrees and sun still in the forecast, we knew we had to take advantage of it!

For us that means instead of indoor wine tasting we find somewhere for outdoor wine tasting…

The patio seating at the Bordeaux Wine Bar is the ideal spot to enjoy the afternoon. A kiss of sunshine, gorgeous greenery, and the relaxing sound of a water fountain accompanied our lunch. It is a great way to spend a lazy afternoon!

Zeek: I had a chicken pesto panini. It was perfectly grilled and just slightly zesty. A perfect lunch for an afternoon that feels like summer!

Denice: Mine was a goat cheese walnut salad that makes eating greens taste like dessert! Refreshing and delicious.

Together we shared a delectable dry French Bordeaux wine. It had a floral but not fruity smell, mildly warming with a medium finish.

After finishing lunch and our bottle of wine at Bordeaux, we went out looking for something new. We happened upon Kalamar Winery, nestled on a cute little farm in Lake Tapps.

Look at these cute wooden barrels! We got a few to take home for our garage. We couldn’t help ourselves!

We tasted their Syrah. It had a tobacco and dark cherry scent with a long warming finish. Definitely somewhere we will be back to! They have tasting events a couple times a year to debut new wines.

Denice: And the best part is it is a working farm! So, of course, I found the animals. If you know me, you know if there are animals around I will find them and I will pet them.

Goats are one of my favorites. When my kids were younger my son and I volunteered on a goat cheese farm where we bottle fed baby goats, and he even helped with one of the births when farm hands didn’t show up! One day I will convince Zeek that we should get a goat. We’ve already done dogs, rabbits, chickens, ducks, and ferrets. Goats must be next!

Zeek: I’m happy to take the picture, as long as I don’t have to pet it or take it home. I’ll stick with my glass of wine, and she can pet the animals! I’ve always heard goats climb on trucks and will eat my lawn anyway… So, I will take her to pet some goats elsewhere whenever she wants!

It is important to us to try to find time each weekend to spend together, and we love our adventures finding places to taste good wine. I (Denice) have spent this last week battling a cold, and work has been busy for me (Zeek) with people out of the office. Saturday was spent running errands, cooking for the week, and cleaning house. Sunday afternoons like this are a chance to reset, let go of the stress from the past week, and look forward to what the coming week holds!

Cheers to sunshine and lazy Sundays!
