Even on a Wednesday

Not just for the weekends, dancing is for everyday of the week!

But especially for the Wednesdays spent at The Mill during their Open Range Singer-Songwriter nights! One of our favorite places, we are regulars at The Mill as is our little unofficial group of friends that follows the same group of musicians together! It is still a marvel to both of us this community of folks we have ended up a part of.

The Show Must Go On

On these evenings, new and upcoming musicians normally perform as Billy Stoops M.C.’s. But on this evening the entertainment was unexpectedly quarantined… As they say, the show must go on, and we already had professionals in the house. Billy Stoops and Leanne Trevalyan performed together and individually throughout the evening as a special treat for all who had come for great entertainment. As normal, they did not disappoint (although we don’t think this duo ever could)!

Of course, as regulars we have a favorite server. Christy was waiting on the tables at the bar and patio and always handles everything without missing a beat even on these busy nights!

Zeek: Normally I go for the chicken wings or filthy dirty pork fries (really how could you not with a name like that). But I was adventurous tonight and picked the patty melt. Delicious!

Drinks are just as good as the food with a full bar and prosecco options for Denice to enjoy. Oh, and most bottles of wine are half off on Singer-Songwriter nights! So you know we had to share one throughout the evening.

We had left the tripod at home and our videographer had homework (that is our adult daughter in case you didn’t catch the last post). But of course we were going to be dancing! The Mill, unlike some places, has a dedicated dance floor that they leave open up near the stage. This is always a special treat as we have a little more room to spread out without being as worried about foot traffic. After one of our dances a new woman we hadn’t seen there before approached me (Denice). She loved our dancing so much that she had taken a video of us wanted to send it to me. Of course I eagerly accepted and told her about this blog! The crowd at The Mill is always so friendly and welcoming- one of the many attractions of this special place.

We love our regular group of friends too. It is so fun to show up for an evening like this and spend half the evening making rounds to other tables we know and entertaining at ours. This rag-tag group of folks are bound together through our collective love of these local musicians and supporting our hometown establishments. When we started recognizing people at the same places we began going to, they readily welcomed us in and made us part of this little family right away!

One of the sweetest couples is Howard and Karen, another set of dancers. We love watching their love of each other. They are regulars who almost always come to the Open Range Singer-Songwriter evenings here at The Mill. Howard and I (Zeek) once got to talking and I discovered he used to own Metzger’s Maps- an old school map distributor here in the Puget Sound. As someone who deals with maps at work and has old Metzger’s maps, I loved discussing this topic with him as he reminisced about his time in that industry.

On this evening we asked them if we could share a video of them dancing, and we were thrilled they agreed!

Billy and Leanne played from 7:00-10:00pm, and we enjoyed every minute of it! As always, we will back on the first Wednesday of June for the next Open Range Singer-Songwriter evening.

So for now, cheers to good music and enjoying the company of new friends and old friends alike!
