Back to the Beginning of July

We didn’t get a chance to share July’s Singer-Songwriter night at The Mill, one of our favorite places, so we thought we’d share a little about it now since the August one is this week! On the first Wednesday of every month, The Mill hosts Singer-Singwriter night, EmCee’d by Billy Stoops. The great difference of this event is that it is set up as a roundtable of different artists, all performing original songs and giving a little history on what inspired the song. We love The Mill and their servers, the folks who attend, and hearing from the artists! It is always one of our favorite events of the month.

It can be a little hard to get there in time on a work night before the place fills up, but now with the folks we know they always make sure to save us a seat, which makes us feel quite at home! We all enjoyed some food together before the music started at 7. At this point Christie, our favorite server, knows our favorite wine which we always order a bottle to share, and we paired it with chicken wings and my (Zeek) classic order, the patty melt!

When the music started, we were enchanted with every one of them! We had heard Walker Sherman and Carly Ann Calbero before and loved them just as much as before. As the night went on and they got comfortable with each other’s styles, you could catch them harmonizing or complimenting the song on their guitars, a fantastic impromptu showcase of each of their talents!

It is hard to say why for sure, but as we’ve gone to The Mill, we’ve noticed their dance floor slowly get bigger and bigger, giving us just a little more room to dance during these evenings! We got in a few dances throughout the evening, having a chance to dance to each performer’s unique sound.

Check out our “The Mill” playlist on YouTube for all our videos from the evening (and other evenings!).

Every performer was amazing, but Carly Ann Calbero instantly enchanted me (Denice) from the start. We’ve seen her perform before but had forgotten how mesmerizing her voice is! I was in love with every song she played and every moment we spent listening to her!

Be sure to check out her website and see where she will be performing next!

We have such a good time with everyone at The Mill! Singer Songwriter nights are all fun and create such a great atmosphere. Between seeing and spending time with folks we know, and meeting some new friends, we had a fantastic evening!

So, for now, cheers to The Mill, and we hope to see you this Wednesday at the 42nd showcase!
