As The Changes Continue
The only constant in life is change. We embrace the changes, and enjoy what they bring… usually.
We had a harder than usual change to deal with over the last couple of months. There wasn't anything to embrace, really...
You may have known the puppies in our life over the years..
From the German Shepherd and the Black Lab sitting with family during Homeschool hours,
to the Lhasa Apso sneaking into the back yard with a bottle of booze. The three of them had been in our lives for over a decade, with the Lhasa since 2009, and were just as much a part of our family!
The black Lab was sick, and at a young age we had to say goodbye to her last year. The German Shepherd, at 12 years old, was losing quality of life, and the hard decision had to made a couple months ago to let her go… and a few weeks ago the Lhapsa Apso was declining quickly, and the humane decision was a heart breaker. So, within the span of about a year, for the first time in over 30 years, there was nothing but us living in house… Empty Nesting to the extreme!
That lasted for three days…
Within the quiet of the house before I got home, Denice was looking on Petfinder.com to pass the time… and found a 2-1/2 year old Doberman that needed to be rehomed. We’d always talked about what “our dog” might look like some day in the future. The three we had were all family dogs, and in many ways our kids dogs. We loved them and were happy to take care of them through their golden years as the kids moved out and started adult lives, but we had talked in general about what kind of dog we might want in the future when it was just us again. While we thought that day might be farther off, we had always come back to the idea of a Dobey, although we hoped we could find a rescue that we could still trust around family and friends, including young children.
Meet Rudolph (previously named Rocky).
This fella is a great addition to our home, and while we still miss the dogs that came before, getting to know Rudolph certainly warms our hearts. He fits everything we had hoped for! From his floppy ears, to his goofy personality, and his love to snuggle up to us, he’s quickly found himself right at home with us.
So for now, embrace the changes you can, mourne the losses you've had, and welcome the opportunities each day brings…
And pretty soon, we'll see ya on the dance floor (Maybe even Rudolph if the training goes well)!
